.crptrgr extension comes with the new CryptoRoger ransomware.

CryptoRoger ransomware and the .crptrgr file extension is the latest development in the family of malware viruses. Just like any other ransomware CryptoRoger will encrypted victims files using AES encryption algorithm and then .crptrgr file extension will appear to locked files. The malware will then demand payment of 0.5 bitcoins equivalent to approximately 400$ to retrieve key to unlock files.CryptoRoger ransomware

How CryptoRoger ransomware works?

CryptoRoger distribution methods are currently unknown. What is know is how it works. Crypto Roger shows typical ransom behavior. It will scan a victim’s storage drives for valuable files and encrypt them using AES-256 algorithm. Once encryption is done, .crptrgr extension will append to encrypted file. MD5 Hash Generator will store the original files along with the filename in the %AppData%\files.txt.

!Where_are_my_files!.html
%AppData%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs\Startup\x.vbs
%AppData%\bg.jpeg
%AppData%\files.txt
%AppData%\keys.dat
%UserProfile%\CryptoRoger\[ransomware_exec].exe

During the process of encrypting CryptoRoger will not make its presence visible to users. After the process is done encrypting files, only then it will appear to victims with ransom note under the name !Where_are_my_files!.html. The content into the ransom note is instructions what user must do to make payment successfully. First victim should install the uTox program to make contact with the the developer thru uTox address F12CCE864152DA1421CE717710EC61A8BE2EC74A712051447BAD56D1A473194BE7FF86942D3E. It appears that user have to send keys.dat file so the developer can make the description possible to paid victims.

The ransom will than create .VBS file in the Windows Startup folder so it can start every time a user logs into Windows. To make thing worse, CryptoRojer will encrypt any new files created on the computer. Which means the longer you keep the the virus the worst is going to get. You have to remove it as soon as you find it out. Paying the ransom not recommended but this may be your only option.

Now that you have been infected you have a few options:
